if you’re unlucky, a collision with a kangaroo might mean your car is a total write off, not to mention injuring or killing the kangaroo and any joeys it is carrying at the time.

I had a very close call with a kangaroo while driving (at dusk) into Lucky Bay recently. As the sunset, all of a sudden there were kangaroos everywhere. On both sides of the road on either side of me, and jumping across the road further ahead. I was feeling grateful that I had installed some sonic animal deterrers only a few days earlier.

The kangaroos definitely seemed to know I was there. They could hear me coming. But one still decided to jump out right in front of me. Thankfully I missed it by only a centimetre.

So, while the sonic animal repeller’s aren’t going to save you from hitting a kangaroo if one decides to jump straight in front of you. At least they will be aware of your presence and may be less likely to jump onto the road.

I definitely noticed birds would fly off much sooner once I had them installed.

I’ve bought some for my whole family now. And I’m much more careful about getting to my campsites before dusk since my near miss with skippy.

These are the ones I bought, but there are other types available too and they all work in a similar way.

As soon as you travel over 50km an hour they emit a high pitch whistle that is imperceptible to human ears, but that animals can hear so they know you are coming.
